Reterra Soil Recycling

reterra.jpg

"Reterra" is a purpose built mobile soil conditioning plant designed for controlled production mixing of a wide range of soils and aggregates using stabilising binders.

These machines provide a range of applications from "soil recycling", to improved soil engineering performance, through to contaminated soil remediation and manufacturing of binder treated aggregates.

Hiway Environmental own and operate the only two Reterra recyclers in New Zealand.

PRINCIPLE

World-wide, stabilisation/solidification of soils and granular materials is a well-established, cost effective and environmentally sound method of treating materials to improve or alter their engineering or chemical properties.

Our process provides a high degree of controlled mixing to stabilise and/or solidify materials. Our "Reterra" machines are ideal for treating contaminated soils with binder agents which stabilise and immobilise contaminants through chemical treatment to become less toxic and solidification to become less available to the environment.

The stabilisation/solidification process also increases the engineering strength properties of the soil allowing for use as an engineered fill material.

Soils are loaded into the Reterra's hopper, conveyed through a scraping rotor and pass through a chamber where binders are added at a computer controlled application rate.

A soil cutter initially sizes material followed by processing with high speed three shaft rotary hammers to thoroughly mix materials. The improved soil is then discharged via a belt conveyor.

APPLICATIONS

The Reterra provides a wide range of uses including:

  • Bio remediation of contaminated soils.
  • Stabilisation and solidification of contaminated soils (depending on contaminants).
  • "Soil Recycling" - stabilisation to improve engineering properties.
  • Reuse of stabilised material for construction purposes.
  • Solidification of sludges and high water content soils.
  • Cement treated basecourse and aggregates for road construction.

BENEFITS TO CLIENT

Cost Savings:

There are considerable savings in transportation, labour and landfill disposal costs. Since the recycled soil can also be reused as a construction material there are savings on purchase of new materials.

Mobility:

The Reterra is easily transported from one jobsite to another using a conventional low loader transporter.

Application:

Many soil types can be treated ranging from friable to highly plastic clays, granular material from silts and sands to aggregates up to 200mm in size, contaminated soils, mud and sludge ( where no dewatering is necessary).

Quality Control:

Computer control means that soils and binders can be mixed evenly at a chosen ratio thus improving the soil to the desired strength.

Site Specific Solutions:

Specific mixes of binding agents can be used to treat specific contaminants that may be present in a particular soil.

Low Environmental Impact:

Noise and Dust is minimal.
