While Subgrade Stabilisation, Aggregate Modification, Pavement Recycling and Fill Conditioning form the core of Hiway Stabilizers business there are other areas and capabilities that the company also specialises in enabling Hiway Stabilizers to offer complete contracting packages to clients.

Project Management

Highway Stabilizers employs a number of experience project managers, estimators and administration personnel as well as a surveyor and are capable of managing all types of maintenance, roading and civil contracts and subcontracts.

Sophisticated management, programming, accounting, quality, health & safety, communication, recording and reporting systems are employed to ensure contracts are managed effectively and efficiently.

Stabilising Binders

A major cost of the stabilisation process is the component cost of the binders which are the products needed for the chemical reactions needed for the stabilising process to work.  In order to remain competitive, Hiway Stabilizers not only source the best competitive prices from suppliers, but see the need to search for materials with similar reactive properties that are cheaper, more readily available, more environmentally friendly and provide high performance end results.

To retain that competitive edge a supply company, Econ Products was created to specifically develop and market new innovative binders.  Econ continues to research and develop proprietary stabilising, dust suppression and de-icing products for New Zealand's roads.

Ground Improvement

After an extensive research and development phase and equipment and technology transfer from Bachy Soletanche the "Colmix" deep soil mixing process was introduced by Hiway Stabilizers into New Zealand. This Colmix process involves injecting cement and/or lime grout through two overlapping continuous flight augers that mix the grout and soil forming a stabilised soil column. Rows of columns are constructed to increase the overall stability and bearing capacity of a block of soil. The Colmix process is ideally suited to road side slip repairs of which numerous have been successfully completed to date.

Through its association with Bachy Soletanche and other ground improvement equipment suppliers Hiway Stabilizers will continue to research and develope other ground improvement technologies and their applications to the New Zealand market. Such technologies include diaphragm walls for deep excavations, stone columns for load bearing, vibrofloatation for induced settlement and compaction and other deep soil mixing techniques.

Environmental Remediation

Hiway Stabilizers recently established a specialist contracting company, Hiway Stabilizers Environmental (HSE), to provide specialist services relating to "environmental" contracting.

HSE is a stand alone company backed and resourced by its parent company Hiway Stabilizers. HSE builds on the success of Hiway Stabilizers, arguably New Zealand's leading stabilisation contractor and well known within the industry for innovation, market leadership and commitment to client based solutions. 

HSE specializes in environmental contracting including all types of environmentally sensitive construction and remediation works, landscape planting, stabilisation/solidification, soil recycling, contaminated site remediation, bioremediation, mud-creting, de-sludging, recycled concrete crushing, materials recycling, permeable reactive barriers and containment plus specialist geotechnical/environmental works.

Civil Works

Hiway Stabilizers employs a full time civil works crew which specialises in concrete works, retaining walls, storm water, waste water, water reticulation, kerb & channel and other minor works.

This capability augments Hiway Stabilizers core pavement construction experise and enables full delivery of roading and development contracts in house.
